What Every Developer Should Know About Databases

Videos / Inel / March 4, 2024

Just like knowing the basics about how operating system works and/or how memory or CPU work, knowing the basics about database internals will, especially a backend developer, make you a more complete and competent programmer. In the video I’m gonna try to go over some basic about database internals and architecture.

What is a Database Kubernetes Operator?

Videos / Inel / February 4, 2024

Running databases on Kubernetes is becoming more prevalent with big and small companies running their data workloads on Kubernetes clusters. Arguably, the best way to deploy and run them is with database Kubernetes operators.

The Ultimate Way to Switch Your Applications on MacOS (Windows or Linux)

Videos / Inel / December 18, 2023

Hello folks, in the video I want to show you a much better way to switch your applications on MacOS (Windows or Linux). Using CMD+Tab (or ALT+Tab on Win/Linux) is inefficient and distracting, to say the least.

CAP is Only Part of the Story, we need PACELC

Articles / Inel / April 27, 2022

Every sharded-data system (a distributed datastore) has (or aims for) three fundamental properties: data consistency, data availability, and that it is tolerant to a network partition (a subset of nodes not being able to reach the rest of the cluster). But due to simple laws of physics it is impossible to have all of these.

About Me

I’m a software engineer who enjoys working on and thinking about distributed and high-performance systems. I currently work at PlanetScale, where I focus on Vitess, a distributed database system built around MySQL.

Previously, I worked at Percona, where I built Kubernetes operators for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB before becoming a lead engineer on Percona ClusterSync for MongoDB, a zero-downtime cluster-to-cluster synchronization and migration engine.

Away from computers, I’m happily married, a proud father of two girls, and I enjoy training in mixed martial arts, sport shooting, going on long hikes, and reading epic fantasy series.
